Background of the project

The culture of the finishing schools is diminishing fast in UK. It has been observed that most of the education systems across the world are finding parity in the curriculums. The number of the English speaking people across the world is increasing drastically, language as we all know, is a great source of spreading the culture of any country. UK is scoring on this parameter. However, in the realms of the 21st century it is becoming difficult for the international students to find coherence with the new and emerging culture of the globalized world. In order to understand the importance of this coherence it is important for anyone to understand the business models that are going prevail in the 21st century.  In the coming years geographical boundaries associated with the expansion of the products will diminish, instead of skimming or penetrating the existing markets, companies will try to figure out niche markets at an international level and release their products worldwide.  

For instance a fast food giant like McDonald can launch its latest ice cream cone simultaneously in China, India, Canada and USA. In order to promote this ice cream in all the four countries McDonald requires three different strategies. The culture variance between India and China is very high, at the same time the culmantural variance between Canada and USA is relatively low. It also means that it is easier for McDonald to prepare workforce for Canada in comparison with China and India. In order to meet out this need, their HR department can conduct special training programs to meet out the cultural variance. It has been seen that companies prefer to strike a balance while appointing their fleet. However, it is not an easy task to search for individuals that are well versed in multiple cultures. Things become critical when these companies search for technical hands.

It is very important to understand that finding an individual with great mathematical abilities, linguistic faculty and cultural awareness is not an easy task. Conventional systems of Education are not promoting these skills on a priority. An institution catering to these diverse skills is the need of the hour. The training programs conducted by HR machinery are time consuming, the selection of right candidates for the right tasks also becomes a tough job for them.  

Places like UK have redefined the term cosmopolitan in many ways. The presence of the English as the prominent international language created this advantage point for the universities of UK. It is estimated that by the arrival of the year 2030, UK will become a hub for the humanitarian studies. The proposed enterprise “Finishing Touch” is an attempt to cater this large population of the international students by creating a finishing school for the graduate and post graduate students. “Finishing Touch” will create an eco-system where multinational companies will share their needs and “Finishing Touch” will design courses in accordance. Most of these courses will be designed in accordance with the diverse needs of multinational companies where the focus will be more on developing the cultural quotient of an individual in a globalized world.


















Section – 1

Project Initiation Document

This report carries the details of the project “Finishing touches (FT).” While discussing it under the various theories of agile project management and other related frameworks that can benchmark the parameters of success or failure. This report will classify all the stakeholders along with a  profile of the probable target customers. During the course of this report a functional analysis of the project will be discussed along with the operational plans and long term planning of the endeavour.





The list of the stakeholders contributing to FT goes as follows

·         International and British Students appearing in various graduation and post-graduation programs. 

·          HR departments of various multinational companies

·         Local and international trade regulatory authorities

·         Universities that are conducting various

·         Policymakers and educationalists seeking educational reforms.


This organization will serve the following purposes right after its inception and in the long run.

·         To identify the key result areas related to the change in the syllabus of FE  for meeting the demands generated by various industrial sectors

·         To spread awareness about the FE programs, and enroll needy students in various programs.

·         Development of new vocational skills that can serve as filler in the industries where machines are taking over.

·         To create various forums where the voices from the industry and educationalists can come together to exchange their visions. 

·         To create some promotional vehicles to promote FE and other such concepts.

·         To create various institutions where FE curriculums can be implemented.

·         To conduct researches for the procurement of effective FE programs.



To serve the interests of various stakeholders and satiate the “welfare driven intentions” of GEFD, the following objectives will set the roadmap for operations.

For the industries

·         To device new methods of interaction between various stakeholders.

·         To procure an industry-ready workforce for the companies

·         To procure various outlets where industries can find new employees.

For the Human ware

·         Development of a new education system

·         Development of employment opportunities

·         Integration of the skills with the demands of the job market

·         The orientation of the skills following the changing realms between machinery and processes

For the Public Sector

·         Development of a database to facilitate SMART decision-making facility for the policymakers.

·         Development of NGO’s and other semi-government organizations to cater to the changing needs of the industrial sector.

Sustainable Advantages

The inclusion of three different sectors of stakeholders on a singular forum will add sustainability to the operations because of the creation of adequate communication bridges. Throughout its functionality, this project will follow the basic norms of sustainability because of the centralization of policies in the favour of the needs of the market and other stakeholders.

The integration of education and the demands of the industry will save the energy and resources of Industries and educators. This cutting in the cost and efforts will further give rise to a system that will be self-sustainable in many ways. The concept of FE can serve as a bridge between formal education and higher education, sometimes FE can also become a self-sufficient education for job seekers. The measurable fruits of FE exercise will make it sustainable (This is why more Indian students will choose the UK for post-graduate programmes this year, 2019).


Before commissioning this project following assumptions have been made to ensure a smooth ride

Ø  The PESTEL environment is supporting the project because the government sector is responsible for the overall growth of the industries. Therefore, one can say that laws and regulations will always be favorable.

Ø  The demand and supply of jobs may fluctuate in the coming future because of the changing dynamism of the industrial sectors.

Ø  Companies are ready to invest in the education sector under the pretext of CSR.

Monitoring Success

Techniques under the framework of PERT will be utilized to establish a lean and mean feedback chain supported by Big Data Mechanism. Customer and companies’ feedback

·         Number of the direct beneficiaries enrolled in FE programs 

·         Number of the indirect beneficiaries who attended counseling sessions

·         Number of hits on various pages of the websites and online avenues

·         Performance ratio analysis of the FE beneficiaries

·         Number of the job placements after the completion of the course

·         Number of the participants from the industry sectors

·         The output of the traffic on various social media outlets attached to the main business


Indication of Success

Indicators of the success will be designed under a synoptic model where keywords like growth percentage and turnover will decide the quantum of the success. To add measurability in the process, a development fund will be commissioned. This development fund will collect a small fraction of money from the beneficiaries.

Legal, Social and Ethical Issues

Since the company is dealing with corporate sectors and the areas that can be considered as cross-cultural. We need to maintain a good ethical profile.  Two primary areas for maintaining a good ethical profile will be related to the principle of parity and oath of secrecy.

Under various PE programs, players in the corporate sector will share necessary and futuristic technologies with us. The constitution of getting the Edge institutes will follow the norms set by the corporate culture, we will make sure that we are not promoting any practice which is equivalent to “insider trading” or an attempt to “leak some confidential information.

Since some of our courses will also deal with the cultural conflicts amicably, all our instructors and core committees will ensure that we are not insulting any culture or hurting the sentiments of the people.  

All our operations will abide by a third-party data agreement, under this agreement the personal data of the beneficiaries and corporates will always remain secure with us. It will not be shared under any third party agreement or any such business instrument for financial gains or commercial activities.

Project Motivation

The onset of the fourth generation industrial reforms and globalization served as the primary motivation behind this project. Many corporate citizens across the world are envisioning a world where the positive impacts of globalization will ensure the proper distribution of goods for future generations. This proper distribution of the goods along with a globalized social good will help the corporates in removing factors like poverty and others from the map of the world.

The conversion of the world into a global world and the arrival of mechanical solutions loaded with Artificial intelligence have the potential to change the working culture of the world. Finally, the world is moving towards a “knowledge economy.” Under this knowledge economy, human beings, their ability to experience, and their intelligence based on non-mechanical ways will become more important.

The basic premise of “Get the Edge” sets a bridge between these changing natures of the industry while connecting it with the formal education systems.  Magazines like “Independent UK” have published many articles, expressing the difficulties of students while going for an internship in the job market. The disparity between education and the demands of the industry has become a serious issue of conflict. Journals publishing various reports for the employment opportunities and their coherence with the education systems have always presented a picture of non-compatibility between the two.

 A systematic literature review of these sources prompted us to develop a basic infrastructure and knowledge pool to address the root problems and deficit areas of the education systems with the help of filler like PE.

How to Achieve Results

The result orientation of this project is mainly dependent on the integration of the roles of the stakeholders in a singular direction by setting smart goals. During the initial run, we will set up benchmarks and create a framework to support breakeven points associated with this project. We will draft some proposals that can serve as investment plans for the industries that are catering to the varied requirements in the mainframe of business operations.

In the second step, we will activate a lean and mean feedback channel under the arrangement of concurring action research. This framework of action research will allow us to centralize the exercise of quality control under a sustainable framework. It will also help us in creating a data pool along with a tacit knowledge pool design more programs for serving PE. 


Pricing, Costs, and Benefits

The pricing of the training programs will be based on the principle of “welfare.” NGO’s and others will contribute to the value proposition. After a point in time, the contribution of the private sector and the public sector will become a safe investment for them. It will create a sustainable framework where the flow of the profits will push the further application of the instruments developed by us.

To cover the basic costs on the merits of a cost incurred to start the machinery, we will also rely on the development funds. These development funds will help us to collect the necessary seed money to initiate new programs. The same development fund will also help us in restarting certain old programs.

The students will pay token money to enroll in the programs and corporates along with the NGOs and government sector will do the rest of the funding. The outputs of this program will serve the settlement of a welfare state. The deciding factors behind the value propositions will be based on the stakes given by private sector players and their counterparts.


Hypothetical Scenario for Profit and loss

This hypothetical scenario of profit and loss defines the financial health of the “Get the Edge.” The section of the Premium users defines the beneficiaries catered by the corporate sector and the Ad-Sponsored sector defines beneficiaries attracted through the efforts of NGO and government sector.  


The balance Sheet Forecast



The seed money for the “Get the Edge” will be generated with the help of “NGO funding and government sector funding.” Under the present circumstances, the company has no fixed assets. The credit card section of the balance sheet refers to the contributions of the voluntary trainers and others.  




Product Description

Under this proposal, we are promoting “Get the Edge.”  Which is NGO based organization catering to the interests of the corporate sector and international students by promoting vocational training based under the framework PE.

Risk Analysis & Contingency Plans

While having a look at the risk factors associated with this project, the following points can be mentioned.

·         The authentication of the FE providers can become a big problem in the absence of proper regulatory bodies.

·         The presence of a data breach can invite insider trading. The companies sharing a partial detail of their operations may suffer losses.

·         Mushrooming of phony institutes catering to international students can take place.

·         Individuals and companies planning to scam the international students can take an advantage of this initiation by coming up with false claims and credentials.

Contingency planning

The sustainability of the “Get the Edge” is heavily dependent on the data collection, the company needs to constitute a “cyber-security action plan.” Under this Cyber Security action plan.” A list of guidelines should be prepared to serve the interests of the stakeholders. A separate cybersecurity wing can also be created to keep an eye on all the operations.

The company needs to come up with a contingency plan to ensure a proper brand identity for itself. It has been observed that sometimes certain fraudsters utilize the spirit of welfare as a tool to plan and force some scams.  To prevent this condition, collaboration among the government and non-government agencies is required.  

A strong culture of accreditation is required where every training program should be evaluated by competent authorities. Apart from it, the culture of stamping the training program should also practice. Under this culture, “Get the Edge,” a government-appointed committee and a committee appointed by the corporate bodies can act as the accreditation body.



Part B

Agile Development

The processes associated with the agile development of “Get the Edge” are dependent on the variables of speed and availability. Since this project considers the success of the “act of welfare” as the main profit, the dynamism of agile development can be seen from a different perspective. In general, the Technique of MoSCow can be applied with an intention to maintain the flow of the actions in the support of the agility.

The process of agile project management identifies each phase of any given project as an agile situation. Under a normal project structure, a team requires to go for market surveys, assessment of the market, identification of the problem, and procurement of the policies and necessary actions. However, the structure of an agile project initiates all the processes simultaneously to bring down the slack time between various phases (Saher, 2014).

MosCow diagram fixes the priorities of the stakeholders during the development of the project and allows them to have a look at their priorities following the varying needs. The MosCow analysis of any project is variable and it may vary following the situations. In the case of “Get the Edge,” it can be seen that during the initial run the company needs the support of NGOs to start few processes; however, as the project will move towards the next level, the involvement of the corporate sector will become more important. 

Use case diagrams

Use Case Diagram is a mechanism that allows the project managers to identify and define the behaviors of various users. During agile management of a project, use case diagrams associated with various processes can be drawn following the sample behavior of the participants, later on; managers can introduce interventions and create prototypes that can be implemented.

Use Case Diagram for Student Registration and enrolment

The above-mentioned diagram for student Registration and enrolment signifies three layers, under this condition a student directly interacts with the admin appointed by the “Get the Edge” and “Trainer.” The trainer deals with the educational needs of the student, admin on the other hand maintain the monitoring of the growth and connect him to the next level where he can find a job opportunity. The process of registration connects the student with the organization and the process of enrolment sends him to the next level (Tabassum, 2017).

The use case diagram for the process of the registration is important because it has a direct bearing on the performance of the company in the long run. A use case diagram defining an ease in the process of the registration has the potential to increase the quantum of the beneficiaries quite effectively.

The diagram for “Profiles and Job Posting, “establishes the role of “Get the Edge” under the capacity of an HR agency taking care of the placement of FE aspirants. This type of intermediation is important because “Get the Edge” is corresponding with job seekers and job providers while creating a new forum for job training and education.  The use case diagram of Job Profiles and Job Postings should have consonance with special cases as well. Special cases are the cases that are not meeting with success even after attending a FE module. An assessment of the reasons for the failures of these special cases can allow the company to explore new key result areas that can improve the performance of the company (Alsheshri, 2017).

Use Case Diagram – Payment Gateway

This company will consume financial transactions on two levels. It will collect money from students, corporate, and government sector funders. After the processing of the resources, the company will attract invoices from the other service providers like educators, infrastructure support providers, trainers, and curriculum developers. 

Under the arrangement of agile project management, all the stakeholders will play a fluctuating role in requesting actor and resource actor. The requesting actor will produce an invoice and the resource actor will generate the means to fulfill the conditions of the invoice, to complete the cycle of the payment certain fractions of this gateway will act as service actor, where they will connect the user actor to the requesting actor. 

 Use Case Diagram – Social Media Integration


The use case diagram of “Get the Edge” operations related to the social media integration shows that primarily it is the end-user whose interests are required to be taken care of.

While performing the job of social media integration, the company will act as a client of social media networks, facilitating a parallel clientele network while notifying them about the new jobs and other such facilities. The above-mentioned diagram shows a cluster of social media operations that will help the company to establish a lean and mean channel of feedback.

This cluster of operations will be functional with the help of social media management tools and vehicles.

The procurement and promotion of motivational user stories

User stories are an intelligent method to promote new technologies, events, and other strategic messages. The social media page of “ Get The Edge” will inspire the user to write their success stories and promote them on the same page. The basic principle of advertising suggests that an anecdotal approach for message sharing can increase the impact of the message in leap and quantum. The tool of the user account will help us in spreading the word because of the novelty factor associated with the offerings.

Social media can be utilized in multiple ways, it can also act as an agent to build a perception about the new domain of knowledge. A study of the testimonials given by the students and company owners can help all the community members to find out new keywords or areas of improvement.

Development of new Prototypes and their implementation

Broadly there will be two types of prototypes that will conduct the Social Media Marketing operations.

The prototype, establishing us as a forum

Under this prototype, the social media page of the company will allow the users to create individual and institution-based accounts. It will allow the users to open sub-forums where various types of topics can be discussed. The same forum will also allow the users to collaborate under the terms and conditions defined by us. To check the authenticity of and credentials of various users, we will be entitled to conduct various credibility tests. HR machinery of various companies can also develop paid accounts on the social media forum generated by us. We are establishing it as a “welfare program.” Still, the presence of a token amount or an entry barrier will help us in creating an environment of authenticity.

A prototype of an agency dedicated to the purpose of training FE

To create a brand identity for ourselves, we will promote “Get the Edge” as a unique agency developing and promoting FE for international students. The setup of a training agency will also allow us to include certain modules related to cross-cultural education and other aspects of hardships faced by international students. Since we are promoting a “welfare program.” It is important for us to create a prototype where other agencies can promote us as a role model for others working in the same direction.

Sprint Planning

The nature of the operations undertaken by the “Get the Edge” is agile because the establishment of an assembly line in an ever-changing environment is a herculean task. The essence of this business model mainly deals with the challenges caused by the changing environments. This is why the company needs to go for instant sprint planning to meet operational goals. 

To achieve the feat of sprint planning, the stakeholders associated with the main operations will form small scrum teams to achieve small measurable goals. Each sprint taken by these scrum teams will consist of trainers, job seekers, and job providers as the active ingredient of the sprint. An individual representing the company will act as a resource generator and manager. This scrum structure can be compared with the structure followed by Google Inc. Under this scrum structure, Google is constantly upgrading its knowledge base while appointing small teams under a consistent manager. Under the conventional structure of project management, this post can also be compared with the post of a brand manager. The case of Google can also be studied as a benchmark in the field of agile project management where independent molecules of business operations can find existence and support a bigger picture quite effectively.

Google taught us that the constitution and accomplishment of various scrum teams and sprint can be measured with the help of the leSS (large scale scrum) framework. Under this condition, the efforts of small scrums can be integrated to represent a large scale scrum.

Every spring will be planned following the breakdown of the requirements into four groups, the group of black logs will represent unique problems faced by the sprint team, the section of the prioritized choices will accommodate the problems that are necessary to maintain the agile nature of the project, the designing of the progress will be implemented with the help of loop-based action research and prototypes will be developed with the help of real-time decision-making mechanisms.

Change request form:


During agile project management, the request for a change can be presented with two intentions. The first intention can be related to the effective management of the resources and the second intention can be of an enhancement in the outputs. Under the present agile project framework, we will follow the second intention; the flow of the changes will be aimed towards an improvement or enhancement in the outcomes of a project. 

The above-mentioned image shows the components of the change management form following the lean and means a feedback chain developed by us. Most of the changes will be facilitated following the user story framework. This is an important demand that dictates the flow of changes in an agile project management setup. Conventional or linear project management techniques promote change management based on synoptic data.  Agile framework on the other hand defines it differently, it promotes the concept of instant feedback based on the “Use case diagrams.”

 Final Prototype:

The final prototype of “Get the Edge” will be a variable catering to the needs of the various FE courses. In the terms of management, it can be termed as handling an “unseen set of problems and converting them into an opportunity.


Class Diagram

The class model diagram shows us the basic model of data entry that can be processed further for the collection of a strong data pool. This pool can add sustainability to the operations of the company and help them in expanding the operations by developing various types of prototypes that can be replicated. This class model can be further processed to develop models related to the collection and processing of tacit knowledge pool as well. Tacit knowledge pool can add sustainability to the process by inducing new and improved versions of the prototypes.
